There is a vacation spot I love so much that I return to it every year.
It is quiet, clean and rejuvenating.
I know every time I visit that the pool will be sparkling. The accommodations are as marketed. The weather good. The food great. And the relaxation I long for will be gained.
All expectations are met!
The only way this happens and the reason I return every year is one word-consistency!
How important is consistency to me and my life?
I want my favorite restaurants to serve my salad the same way every time-crisp with the dressing on the side.
I want my home to be consistently warm, inviting and safe.
I want my husband to be consistently happy, strong and romantic.
I want my friends to be consistently loyal, compassionate and supportive.
I want ME to be consistently kind, thoughtful and loving.
Consistency creates (and maintains) relationships.
Inconsistency causes breakups, divorce and change.
After about the third time I receive a bad meal, my favorite restaurant may become a distant memory.
When friends don’t show up for each other the friendship suffers.
When there is no consistent reciprocity of love and loyalty in a partnership, bonds can be broken.
And if my favorite vacation spot stops living up to my expectations, I will quickly be searching for a new sanctuary to visit.
Realizing this makes ME want to try harder to be consistent in my relationships and in my life. I want to show up in a way that is kind thoughtful and loving. Consistently.
