“If you can’t be happy here, you won’t be happy anywhere!” I’ve heard her say this when she is sitting in a comfy chair, when she is looking out the window enjoying a view, when she is having a great meal and so many other times. Every time I hear it, I smile. I smile because I love the message behind her words. You see, she is in her 8th decade. She has sat in a lot of chairs, looked out a lot of windows and eaten a lot of meals. Her point is, happiness is a choice. I believe we all have control of our happiness. It comes from inside. The problem is we are constantly comparing. Is your chair more comfortable than mine? This meal is good, but is there a better one? Is the view from your life better than the view from mine? It is in the comparison that we create a more-than-less-than judgment of our happiness level – and our life. If we are continually trying to reach a level set by the standard of what someone else has, we will never appreciate what we have. And, here is a little secret….once you reach that level, where you think you can be happy, you can always find someone at a higher level. The discontent begins again as you try to reach the next step. Until you are happy for what you have now, you will never be happy with more. When we come to a place of contentment with where we are and with what we have we understand the real feeling of happiness. Relax in the chair you have now. Enjoy the meal you have now. Love the view from your life now…because, “If you can’t be happy here, you won’t be happy anywhere!” ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Pennie’s Life Lesson: “Until you are happy for what you have now, you will never be happy with more.” ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Pennie Heart to Heart |
